Pitch & notation

Note Finder

Move a note, see its name, and hear its pitch. Make the connection between the staff and the sound.

  • Treble, bass, and grand staff
  • Sharps, flats, and optional staff labels
  • Hide the name for a quick class challenge

Single HTML file · 72 KB

Quick start & teaching idea
  1. Choose a clef or the grand staff.
  2. Tap the staff or drag the note. You can also use the Up and Down buttons.
  3. Select Play note to hear it. Turn on Sharps & flats to explore accidentals.

Try it: Select Hide name, move the note, and ask students to name it before revealing the answer.

Sound is concert pitch, not transposed for individual instruments. Settings reset when you refresh.

Listening & rhythm

The Rhythm Race Game

Listen to a rhythm, then build it with movable notes and counts. A friendly race with the teacher in charge.

  • Two-player race or timed turns for 1–3
  • Customizable notes, counts, and meter
  • Teacher-judged answers, not auto-grading

Single HTML file · 85 KB

Quick start & teaching idea
  1. Choose Two-player race or Timed turns. Use Settings to choose notes and counts.
  2. Count in, then clap or play a rhythm. Players drag notes and counts into place.
  3. In a race, players select Done. The teacher checks the answers and directs the winner to tap their score.

In timed turns, start the timer, build, then Stop & lock. The teacher or performer checks the answer and selects PASS or FAIL.

Board tip: Run Board test on your actual touchscreen before a two-player lesson. Timed turns is an alternative if simultaneous touch is unavailable.

Scores, times, and the play log reset on refresh. Settings and custom rhythms save only in that browser when storage is available.

Note values & counting

Rhythm Lab

Explore the rhythm pyramid, hear note values, and build a four-beat measure. Finish with a short knowledge check.

  • Whole notes through eighth notes
  • Four-beat builder with audio playback
  • Six-question practice check

Single HTML file · 41 KB

Quick start & teaching idea
  1. In Explore, select a pyramid row and choose Listen to this row.
  2. Open Build a measure. Add notes until you reach four beats, then listen.
  3. Select Check yourself for a six-question practice quiz.

Try it: Build the same four beats in several ways. Hum or sustain long notes instead of only clapping their starts.

This lesson uses 4/4 time, with a quarter note equal to one beat. Quiz results stay on the page and reset when you reload.

New to HTML downloads?

It’s a web page.
Not an installation.

Each resource is a small interactive web page saved as a file. Keep it on your computer and open it in your browser whenever you need it.

Save these instructions
  1. 01

    Download your resource.

Choose Download HTML for one tool, or Download all three for the collection. Look in your computer’s Downloads folder.

  2. 02

Unzip only if you chose the collection.

On Windows, right-click the ZIP file and choose Extract All. On a Mac, double-click the ZIP. Open the extracted folder before opening a resource.

  3. 03

Open the .html file in a browser.

Double-click it. If it opens as text, right-click and choose Open with, then Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari. On a Chromebook, find the file in the Files app and open it with Chrome.

  4. 04

Give it a quick try before class.

Click a sound button and check your speakers. If using an interactive board, open the file on the connected computer and check the touch controls.

A few useful things to know

Before the first lesson.

A laptop or desktop is the simplest place to use the downloaded files.

Do I need internet or an account?

No account or installation is required. Download the files while online; the core activities and generated audio work locally. Rhythm Lab uses an online font, so its lettering may look a little different offline. Its reference links also need internet.

The previews on this page need internet. To keep a resource, use its download button rather than bookmarking the preview.

What if the file opens as code or does not download?

Keep the filename ending in .html, not .txt. Use Open with and choose your browser, rather than a text editor or an email attachment preview.

If your browser opens the activity instead of downloading, try the ZIP collection. On a managed school device, downloads or local HTML files may be restricted. Ask your IT team for help rather than bypassing a warning.

Why can’t I hear anything?

Sound starts after you click a playback button. Check the computer’s volume, the browser tab’s mute setting, and the selected speaker or classroom display output.

Open the downloaded file directly in a current browser and try again. A file-manager or email preview may not run the audio or interactive controls.

Can I use a tablet, phone, or classroom board?

The layouts adjust to smaller screens, but opening downloaded HTML on phones and tablets varies by device and file app. A file preview may not run the activities. Try the browser preview here, or use a laptop or desktop for the downloaded version.

For a classroom board, use the browser on the connected computer. Simultaneous two-player dragging depends on the board, touch connection, and browser; run Rhythm Race’s Board test before class.

Will scores and settings be saved?

These are classroom tools, not a gradebook. Note Finder resets on refresh. Rhythm Lab’s practice results reset on reload. Rhythm Race’s scores, times, and play log reset on refresh; its settings and custom rhythms may remain in the same browser when local storage is available.

Nothing here syncs across devices. Record any results you need before refreshing or closing an activity.
